DGMAMAA Mutual Aid Association (IDIR) History
Debre Genet Medhane Alem Mutual Aid Association (IDIR) was first initiated by Church Elders (1) Major Hailemariam Abai (2) Ato Negatu Telahun (3) Engineer Girma Alaro in 1997 (1989 E.C.), but formally established in 2004 (1996 E.C.). The primary objective of the Association is to support association members and their families financially and spiritually in times of bereavement and serious illness.
The Association was established as a tax-exempt nonprofit organization in accordance with Internal Revenue Code 501 (C) (3) and has no affiliations with any political organization.
In order to join the DGMAMMA (IDIR) an applicant must be a member of the Debre Genet MedhaneAlem Church for one year. After one year, the member is granted the full benefits of the association’s membership.
DGMAMAA was launched to enable the association’s members to collectively leverage their financial and human resources to provide support and funds to ameliorate the difficulties members confront in times of serious illnesses and death.
DGMAMAA is long-term group life coverage with minimal and affordable monthly contributions.
The monthly membership contributions are collected and distributed as specified in the Association’s bylaws to assist the grieving IDIR member and their families.
Members are required to:
-
Attend Church Memorial Services
-
Attend Funerals/Burial Services
-
Comfort grieving family members (Attend LEKSO)
In 2015 (2007 E.C.) the Association purchased several burial lots in three different Cemeteries:
-
Fairfax Memorial Park Cemetery in Virginia
-

-
Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Maryland
DGMAMAA will assist its members with funeral expenses following the loss of a family member.
